The history of R.Vilar knives

Hello. Thank you for visiting my website.
My name is Ricardo Vilar and I’ve been making knives since 1993 when I sold my first knife.
I love knives since I was a child and I’ve always tried to make that. When I went to an archery competition in Argentina I met an amateur knifemaker who explained to me the process of making custom knives. Back again to São Paulo I started making my first knife and I never stopped.
Up to the year 2000 I only made my knives by the stock removal, I didn’t forge any knife. The same year I met, Rodrigo Sfreddo and Luciano Dorneles .They used to forge their
knives. It was completely new for me.
I traveled 1200 km to visit Luciano, and I could see for the first time a knife being forged.I had never seen it before, and I got excited with that. It was amaizing: The steel could be shaped with fire, hammer and anvil.
Again when I got back to SP, I bought an anvil, made my gas forge and started singing a hammer.
At the end of 2000 Ivan Campos called me and made me a proposition. He suggested to me “Lets bring a mastersmith to Brazil to teach us.
In November 2001 the ABS Mastersmith Jerry Fisk, was at my shop giving a course to 14 Brazilian knifemakers.Since then I only make my knives by forge.
I’ve become ABS member, and I will make that journeysmith test as soon as I can.
At the same course I was honoried to be part of the foundation of a Brazilian association: The SBC
